Two years after the start of discussions and one year after a positive vote in the House of Representatives (bill 120/2018C), the Colombian Senate passed - on 11 June 2020 - the bill to ban animal testing for cosmetics (264/2019S).

Representative Juan Carlos Losada, who sponsored the text, celebrated the approval and assured that it is a great step in the defense of the rights of the animals.

Due to some bill changes in the Senate, including to strengthen support for non-animal research, the legislative text had to be reconciled in both Houses before being forwarded to President Iván Duque to sign into law.

This was done on June 17 and the text is now ready for the presidential signature.
