DIY – How to Take Acrylic Nails Off

Acrylic nails are extremely popular these days, but removing them can be difficult, especially if you haven’t taken good care of them. Fortunately, there is a way you can remove your acrylic nails at home.

Start by trimming your nails as short a possible. Then use a nail file to buff your nails and remove the gloss. Make sure you work around each nail uniformly and don’t focus on a single spot. Clean off any dust that remains once you’re done buffing.

Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly around the skin near your nail beds. This will ensure your skin is protected for the next step.

Next, partly fill a glass bowl with acetone nail remover. Dip your nails in the bowl for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the glue that binds the acrylic nail to your natural nails begins to come off.

Now, gently try to remove the acrylic nail. If you feel any resistance at all, put your nail back in the acetone polish remover. Never try to force off your acrylic nails as you could seriously damage your natural nails or even get an infection.

Once all your acrylic nails are removed, wash your hands thoroughly with water to rinse off the petroleum jelly and the nail polish remover. If there’s any glue left on your nails, use a buffer to remove it.

Finally, apply cuticle oil or olive oil to moisturize your nails, which will have become dried out during the nail removal process.
