Puss in Boots: Women Love Shoes

We’ve all had that moment where we’ve walked past our favorite shoe store and saw a pair of shoes that we just needed to add to our wardrobe. Even with the references in pop culture from Cinderella to Carrie Bradshaw, women just love shoes, which leaves us wondering, why?

Sex Appeal

One of the main reasons as to why women love shoes is because of their sex appeal. There’s nothing more attractive than a woman with elongated legs and a killer pair of heels to top her outfit off. Even those with smaller heights such as kitten heels help to add a certain type of allure to an every day outfit. We always want to look our best and as pop culture has shown, heels can do the job perfectly.

Adding to Outfits

Any type of shoe can really complete your outfit, whether it’s a pair of rain boots or a pair of runners that you wear to the gym. They showcase your personal style and help to add an extra something to a regular pair of pants or shirt that you would normally wear. Have you ever had a moment where you’ve noticed a woman’s outfit but really noticed her shoes? That’s the impression that everyone tries to achieve with a killer pair of footwear.

Making a Statement

Professionals say that people can tell a lot about you by the way that you dress from your hair to your toes. If you were wearing a shoddy pair of shoes that you bought 6 years ago and have worn down, it would show that you don’t care too much about your appearance. Whereas a brand new pair of pumps really makes the perfect statement and first impression. It is human nature to want to impress people, which is another contributing factor as to why we have so many pairs of shoes in our closets.

According to Helen Fisher, a professor of anthropology from Rutgers University, all mammals associate power with height and the higher your shoes are, the more powerful you will appear to be. In fact, you will notice that higher heels will automatically raise your status and the way that other people see you as a powerful figure. It also dates back far into the past where in previous centuries, powerful and rich individuals wore heels and it established that you had class and status.
